Let me say right up front that you only need to read this article if you are lucky enough that your group is getting bookings in large or outdoor venues. But if you have a good set of main PA speakers that are starting to sound strained at those large gigs, you might want to think about a next logical step. You can send comments, questions, or scathing diatribes to Larry at lmundy attbi. As I said at the end of that article, the result worked great. This requires PA speakers and amps that can reproduce a full spectrum of sound.
For most folks with a decent PA setup, this means simply adding subwoofers and subwoofer amps to extend the low range of the overall system. By their nature, subwoofers are big, heavy things, with giant speakers in thick-walled cabinets, and need to be powered by big, heavy amplifiers. Yes, this is a lot more stuff to load into the truck and lift onto the stage and set up and lift off the stage and cart home, over and over.
One side benefit, though, is that a lot of the zillion-watt instrument amps can be left at home, if you have a truly powerful full-range PA. The guitar player can get the tone he wants from that little vintage amp, and play as loud as he wants through the simple expedient of a microphone strategically placed in front of his little-vintage-amp speaker. The bass player, the keyboard player, everybody can play a little softer through smaller, lighter equipment. As a result they can probably hear fairly normal levels of conversation when the gig is over, a decided benefit compared to the old days when you could tell what size shows a performer played, by how deaf he or she was by age
Adding subwoofers to your PA system
Tue May 08, 1: You’re just tossing more and more and more misinformation into this thread with every post! I realize you’re all well meaning, but the question has already been answered ie it relates directly to speaker sensitivity and how loud you need it and the rest of the stuff you folks are throwing in is – I’m sorry – but it’s mostly wrong.
This statement made by another is true. You can hook up 20 subs to a mono amp; BUT you have to co nfigure the speakers by impedance/ohms. if you hook two 2 ohm speakers to a 4 ohm steady amp in parallel you will soon buy a new amp. if you hook 10 speakers in series you will not even get it warm. Each speaker will also divide the available wattage and will not have a lot of power.
Amplifiers that are 2 ohms stable produce more power resulting in more volume. This amp can comfortably power speakers or subwoofers with all channel s being used at a load of 2 ohms. We have developed a specific linear circuitry that further reduces distortion while increasing both sound quality and power output. High and Low Level Inputs An amplifier with both high-level and low-level inputs provides flexibility by allowing you to build an audio system using virtually any standard factory or aftermarket source unit.
High-level speaker level inputs accept the signal from the speakers, while low-level RCA inputs accept the signal from the pre-amp outputs of the source unit. Protection If the amplifier gets too hot, the thermal protection circuit turns the amp off and allows the amp to cool down before turning it back on. If a speaker fails causing an electrical short, the protection circuit will automatically cut the output and remain in that state until the short is resolved.
These safety features give you peace of mind knowing the amplifier is constantly monitoring conditions to protect itself. Subwoofer Level Control The ability to boost or attenuate the sub level when an amp and subwoofer are connected to the subwoofer pre-amp output. Variable Gain Control Variable Gain Control lets you balance the amps output with the speakers or subs the amp is driving.
To much gain will lead to distortion and to little will lead to clipping. Variable Low Pass Filter.

Whether it’s an installation that might not have gone as planned, or a random problem that comes out of nowhere. Here is a list of your common car stereo problems, symptoms and solutions to help get your stereo up and running! Many Jeeps and Chevrolet systems have a data signal wire that carries a very low voltage signal that tells the OEM Head Unit when to turn on, however; it is not compatible with aftermarket units.
Oct 09, · You can use a less powerful amp (say around watts rms at least) as long as you set the gains correctly at the amps rated power, it wont be as loud but at lest you wont damage anything and also its best to leave the bass boost alone.
June 20, Without being facetious, why? Do you use different amps for different purposes depending on the input? Do you have a different set of speakers connected to each amp, or do you use the same speakers, connecting and reconnecting them as required? Or, can you connect the same speakers to different amps simultaneously? Sometimes people switch amplifiers because there are trade offs in the sound of each so they use one with certain music another with other music.
Primarily though multiple amplifiers would be used in biamplifed or triamplified system. In a biamp system there is no passive crossover so the division of sound is done before the amplifiers with an electronic crossover this is the same as using a powered subwoofer with a surround system. The amp is connected directly to the individual speaker. That way you can tailor the amount of power and sound of the amp to the range and the type of speaker.

I feel this information will be important to the owners of these superb amplifiers. There’s very little editing: I want to call attention to both you and owners of the Canary CA , a moderately inexpensive vis a vis very expensive premium B tubes way to kick up the performance of these amps. Having just brought another pair of them into my showroom, I decided to leave the stock Electro Harmonix B as is. For less money than a pair of KR B’s these amps take 2 pair each keep in mind , the changes were breathtaking.
2. Warranty Of The Amplifier. Buyer Beware! Be sure that you are getting a warranty on your amplifier! Many manufactures will not honor a warranty unless the amp was purchased from an authorized retailer. While, on the surface, this might not seem fair, please consider the reasoning behind it: Manufacturer’s work hard to set up a distribution chain that they can trust.

How to hook up a subwoofer to a stereo system Hint: You don’t necessarily need a receiver with subwoofer output jacks. Subs can provide a foundation to the sound that few speakers can muster on their own. So adding a sub is not just about adding more and deeper bass; rather, a properly integrated subwoofer can improve the overall sound of the system.
AV receivers feature bass management to direct the low bass frequencies to the sub and the midrange and treble frequencies to the speakers. The subwoofer is hooked up to the receiver with a single interconnect cable.
Before we can answer the question of how much amplifier power you need, we have to ask what the room and venue will look like. Are you attempting to power a small home theater? Are you looking to run some powerful outdoor speakers, or a whole-home audio system from a multi-channel amplifier?
Contact Us Improving Stereo Performance of a Surround Sound Setup — Part 1 I hear and read of numerous reports from people with surround sound systems, that are not performing as well as desired for stereo music playback. Some are people who sold their old stereo setup, jumped on the surround sound band wagon, and now miss the musical qualities of their previous system. Others have started out with a surround sound system, but underestimated how much music they play and now find their system lacking in this department.
In both cases, people have fallen for the marketing hype that more channels is better, 5. So why do surround sound systems have such poor stereo performance compared to a stereo system? There are several reasons: All of which degrades and colours the sound. One box mentality; with everything in a one box AV receiver, all the digital electronics crammed in can cause interference with the analogue circuitry. For many receivers all circuitry and amplification channels are powered using a single PSU see photo below, 6 , which can struggle at high loads and may not be able to provide the cleanest power to each component when everything is at full swing.
As such these should be the best speakers you can afford. Cheaper speakers for the rear channels will be far less noticeable than cheaper speakers at the front. Stereo Signal Path with an AV Receiver Before we consider options to improve stereo performance, it is beneficial to consider the signal path a stereo source has to go through when using an AV receiver.

I’ve had friends run Kove 12″s, 4 doors and 2 tweeters off a 5 channel amp before. I doubt it got the sub to it’s RMS rating, but it sounded pretty good and got the job done, I just wouldn’t recommend it like that. I want to amp my tweeters and 6X9’s and my sub, different amps for the subs and speakers I don’t understand how you do it because the speakers have to be hooked up to the head unit right?? The power lead connects from the amp positive terminal to your battery – you will have to route the leads under your carpet.

We publicly state that we have factors when it comes to scanning, indexing and ranking. Generally, the number of algorithms is a casual number. For instance, one algorithm can be used to display a letter on the search results page. Therefore, we believe that counting the exact number of algorithms that Google uses is not something that is really useful [for optimizers]. Since Google Penguin was modified into real-time update and started ignoring spam links instead of imposing sanctions on websites, this has led to a decrease of the value of auditing external links.
According to Gary Illyes, auditing of links is not necessary for all websites at the present moment. These companies have different opinions on the reason why they reject links. I don’t think that helding too many audits makes sense, because, as you noted, we successfully ignore the links, and if we see that the links are of an organic nature, it is highly unlikely that we will apply manual sanctions to a website.
In case your links are ignored by the “Penguin”, there is nothing to worry about. I’ve got my own website, which receives about , visits a week. I have it for 4 years already and I do not have a file named Disavow. I do not even know who is referring to me. Thus, in the case when before a website owner was engaged in buying links or using other prohibited methods of link building, then conducting an audit of the reference profile and rejecting unnatural links is necessary in order to avoid future manual sanctions.
It is important to remember that rejecting links can lead to a decrease in resource positions in the global search results, since many webmasters often reject links that actually help the website, rather than doing any harm to it.
An avid camper and erstwhile Boy Scout, I was amazed at how many things I could do with this well-made, pocket-size wonder. I used its tweezers to remove splinters and ticks, its scissors to cut thread, its can opener to prize open tins of baked beans, and its knife blade to whittle, occasionally cut myself, and generally wreak teenage mayhem. As I grew older, I discovered that using specialized tools for a given job was generally easier, faster, and more pleasurable than using my Swiss Army knife’s utilities.
Though I could cut a tent’s ground cloth with my knife’s scissors, a plain-Jane pair of Fiskars worked much better, an OXO can opener got me into those baked beans much faster than my Victorinox could, and even my Swiss Army knife blade didn’t stay as sharp or fit in my hand as well as a simple Buck knife. Still, there was no doubt that my Swiss Army knife was a great tool and a good value, even if it was never the best tool for a specific task. To put it another way:
Sep 18, · In this video I go over the basics to installing an amp and sub into your vehicle using a hi-low / line level converter to get signal off a stock sound system. Products used: MTX Thunder Subs.
Some equipment, especially amps, have multiple OHMS ratings. But what does it all mean, and why is it all so important? OHMS are a way of measuring Resistance. Resistance is the measurement of an electrical device or circuits ability to flow electricity. Low resistance means the device is able to “pass” more electricity, high resistance means it “passes” less.
Resistance is a Static measurement it does not change. Speakers do not have a resistance, as whilst the cone moves the effect of the magnets in the motor causes the resistance to change. Impedence is also known as Speaker Load. OK so now you understand what OHMS are and how they related to the speakers impedence, how does that help?
It helps you determine which speakers are going to be suitable for your equipment! As we know, LOW Impedence means more power passes from the amplifier to the speaker making it louder, and vice versa. Visit this article for the video version of this article. But first lets familiarise ourselves with different audio configurations: Amplifiers which support Bridging allow you to “team up” two channels to increase the power.
